Hypnotherapy for Postnatal Depression

Postnatal depression (PND) happens in all cultures and across socio-economic classes. Child-bearing women of all ages may be susceptible to this condition. Postnatal depression is not a modern condition — it has existed for decades though each generation has a different name for it. Today we call it PND, back then it may have been called a ‘nervous breakdown’ 50 years ago.

Mild, moderate, or severe symptoms can begin during pregnancy (antenatal depression), may occur suddenly after birth, or it may develop gradually during the weeks or months following delivery. Symptoms can emerge at any time during the first year after giving birth; in most cases though, PND occurs within the first 4 months.

Postnatal depression may occur after a miscarriage, stillbirth, normal delivery, or Caesarean delivery — pregnancy is the common factor in all cases. Although PND generally happens after women give birth to their first baby, it has a 50 percent chance of recurrence with a subsequent pregnancy.
